Garden Gnomie ("the App") is a gardening companion app developed by Curtis Meyers. Your privacy matters. This policy explains what data the App collects, how it is used, and your rights.

Data Stored On Your Device

Most of your garden data — beds, containers, indoor stations, planted seeds, care log entries, AI conversation history, and app preferences — is stored locally on your device using on-device storage (MMKV). This data does not leave your device unless you explicitly export a backup.

Data Sent To Garden Gnomie's Servers

The App uses Supabase as its backend. The following data is transmitted to and stored on our servers:

• Anonymous account identifier. The App creates an anonymous account on first launch so your data can sync to future versions. No email, name, or personally identifying information is required or collected at this stage.
• Push notification token, location, and alert preferences. If you grant notification permission, the App registers your device's Expo push token along with your configured garden coordinates (latitude and longitude) and your frost/heat alert toggles. This is required so we can send you weather alerts targeted to your specific garden location. You can revoke this at any time by disabling notifications in your device settings or by signing out.
• Waitlist email (website only). If you sign up for the waitlist on gardengnomie.com, your email address is stored in our Supabase database for the sole purpose of notifying you when the App is available. We do not share waitlist emails with third parties. You can request removal at any time by contacting us.

AI Features

The App includes an AI assistant ("Ask my Gnomie") and AI-powered seed lookup. These features call Google Gemini through Garden Gnomie's own servers — you do not need to provide an API key, and Garden Gnomie pays for the AI usage.

When you use an AI feature, the following is transmitted to our servers and forwarded to Google Gemini:

• Your question or seed name
• A summary of your garden context — your hardiness zone, a count of planted beds and varieties, and any plants flagged as needing attention. The summary does not include your exact location, name, email, or anything that personally identifies you.

AI responses are stored locally on your device. We do not retain the content of AI conversations on our servers beyond the time it takes to fulfill the request. Google Gemini's handling of the data it receives is governed by Google's terms — see the Google Gemini API Terms.

Weather Data

The App uses the Open-Meteo API to display weather forecasts. Your configured garden coordinates (latitude and longitude) are sent to Open-Meteo to retrieve weather data. Open-Meteo is a free, open-source weather API. No personal identifying information is transmitted. See the Open-Meteo Terms.

Notifications

The App sends two kinds of notifications:

• Local reminders (watering and care prompts) are generated entirely on your device. No data is sent to our servers to schedule them.
• Frost and heat alerts are sent from Garden Gnomie's servers using the push token, location, and alert preferences described above. Our server checks weather data for your registered location on a regular schedule and sends a push notification only if a frost or heat threshold is crossed and you have that alert type enabled.

Data Storage and Backup

You can export all your local garden data as a JSON backup file at any time via Settings. You can also restore from a backup or delete all local data from within the App. To delete the data we store on our servers (push token, location, alert preferences), disable notifications and contact us at the email below — full account deletion will be self-serve in a future version.

Third-Party Services

The App relies on the following third-party services to function:

• Supabase — hosts our backend (anonymous account, push token registration, waitlist).
• Google Gemini — powers AI features. Data sent is described above.
• Open-Meteo — provides weather forecasts.
• Expo Push Notification Service — relays push notifications from our server to your device.

The App does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. The App does not sell, share, or rent your personal data to third parties.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by an updated date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
